92 Points / Editors’ Choice – Wine Enthusiast – August 2015
Tasting Notes by Paul Gregutt / Wine Enthusiast: Though Syrah is not new to Southern Oregon, the recent rise in quality may surprise you. DANCIN’s Danseur is estate-grown in the Applegate Valley. It’s an aromatic, tightly woven gem, loaded with plum, berry and kirsch, highlights of herb and bramble and a finish streaked with chocolate, espresso and licorice. Tannins are polished and the flavors linger delightfully.
Romance Copy: The fruit for our 2012 Danseur Syrah was hand harvested on a cool October 13th morning at Pearl Family Vineyards in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon. The unique terroir in this region provides abundant sun with optimal soil. Wine character is enhanced with the utilization of both composting and cover cropping to sustain soil nutrient content.
Immediately following harvest, the perfectly ripe clusters were delivered to the winery where the fruit was hand sorted and then destemmed and placed in small bins to cold soak until fermentation began with the indigenous yeast provided by nature in the vineyard. After a series of manual punch downs, the wine was pressed, settled and transferred to 100% French oak barrels for nineteen months.
